Crime Alert - Theft of mobility scooters

Dear residents,

Humberside Police are investigating recent reports of thefts of mobility scooters.

This is happening across the whole of North East Lincolnshire, but we have seen an increase in thefts within our area. There is crime prevention advice below, however if you would like to speak with your local policing team in person, we will be in attendance at the neighbourhood watch meeting on the 20th of October at 10:00am. Andy, Fiona and Beth will be at the meeting to discuss these issues and how we can try and reduce the number of incidents within the Cambridge Park area.

If you have any CCTV footage (including video doorbell), showing anyone acting suspiciously in the area or have any information about the offenders please contact the police on the non-emergency number 101, or come and see us at the meeting.

Not everyone is registered for my community alert within this area, please pass on the message about this alert to anyone you feel would benefit within the area.

Alternatively you could call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111. You don’t have to leave your name and you may even receive a reward.

You can also provide information anonymously on the Crimestoppers website

To reduce the risk that items being stolen from your garden, please read through the below advice.

Keep gates shut and locked whenever possible, we recommend using a lock at the top and bottom of the gate.

Consider fitting dusk to dawn lighting that provides cover of your garden, but try and position the light so it won't annoy your neighbours.

Consider fitting motion activated CCTV that will alert you if there is movement in your garden.

We recommend a fence no higher than 1.2m at the front of a property, and a fence 1.8m at the rear of a property. Trellis on the top of the rear fence will make it more difficult to climb, but be aware, anything over 2m in height may require planning permission.

The use of gravel drives and paths, makes it difficult for someone to move around quietly.

If you by plants/trees to put in pots, but the heaviest pots you can, to make them more difficult to move quietly.

Consider planting spikey plants/bushes around your garden to make it more difficult for someone to climb into your garden.

Valuable items in your garden should be fixed in place, to make them difficult to remove.

Property mark your garden furniture with your postcode & house number, recording it for FREE at www.immobilise.com

Please also find attached the Police Crime Prevention Handbook which covers a broad range of crime prevention advice.

Thank you
